Read the seed packet for timing, depth, light and temperature. Some crops benefit from an indoor start; others are best sown directly outdoors.
Use clean containers with drainage and fresh seed-starting mix. Label the variety, sow at the recommended depth and maintain appropriate moisture without saturation. Provide suitable light after emergence.
Vermiculite can retain moisture where the sowing method calls for it; it is optional. If seedlings collapse at soil level, review hygiene and moisture and seek plant-specific advice before treatment.
