Check the growing mix before watering, rather than following a fixed calendar. Species have different moisture needs; light, temperature and pot size affect how quickly the mix dries.
Use a pot with drainage holes and empty excess water from the saucer. A layer of pebbles does not replace drainage holes or repair a waterlogged mix.
If the mix stays wet, check roots and pot size. At repotting, perlite may improve aeration in a suitable mix. Identify the cause before adding a product.
